Forced to return to Neboron due to family issues, Barock has brought Zoe along to meet his home. He didn't expect to find that his mother was keeping his father's remains in her home and was convinced that he would be coming back to life.

Back on Earth, Helius has fallen into the grip of Hector Grace, also known as Hecticus - who he has learned is his son. He and Barock visited Earth during the Civil War and he had a dalliance with a slave who urged him to intervene on behalf of the slaves in the Confederacy. Now Hecticus' minions, Billy Dickens and Queen Maya, have his weapons and are using them to terrorize downtown Los Angeles. With Barock on Neboron and Helius captured, who can stop them?
