Aboard the Last Resort with Jarael and the mysterious Camper, Zayne and Gryph have escaped planet Taris... sort of. Most of the ship's systems are dead, and the local constabulary are already on the scene. A quick repair job by Camper gets the ship spaceworthy enough to escape into the debris field orbiting the planet.

While the others sleep, Zayne attempts to contact the local Jedi Academy on Dantooine. His old teacher has already heard about the slain Padawans, and believes Zayne is responsible, though he believes Zayne when he protests that he doesn't think he did. Their conference is cut short when Jarael stuns Zayne to move the ship back into the safety of the debris field. But thinking about the past few days leads Zayne to suggest a trip to Taris' Rogue Moon, the last place that the Jedi and Padawans went before the slaughter.
