Actors will go to any length to keep a rent-controlled apartment in Manhattan. Fresh off their regional theater success in Iowa, young actors Holly Washburn (Melissa Joan Hart) and Calvin (Ryan Browning) move into an apartment belonging to Aunt Agatha (Lynne Marie Stewart), but their relative overdoses and dies because of diet pills. The two actors realize they could never afford such a place, and the best way to keep it is to pretend that Aunt Agatha is still alive and living in the apartment. The biggest hurdle to face is Vincent Lasso (Joseph D. Reitman), the building super and owner’s son. Since Vincent is suspicious, the two actors call on their friend Dennis (Andrew Kavovit), but the help of unstable Rico (Don Novello) may cause more trouble.
