In 1879 in the Dakota Territory, USA, a small group of brave pioneers keep several isolated colonies on desolate land, far from any sign of civilization. The Irish immigrant Fergus Coffey (Karl Geary) is about to ask the hand of his sweetheart Maryanne (Jocelin Donahue) when she and her family are kidnapped one night. The ones suspected are a group of hostile Indians. Will Parcher (William Mapother) and John Clay (Clancy Brown), who fought before against the Indians, go to rescue the kidnapped colonists, taking with them a naive teenager who is a former slave and seeks his meaning in the world and the farm leader, Fergus Coffey. But as people begin to disappear in the night, the group discovers that what they seek is more terrifying than anything human, and their chances of survival are almost zero.
