Sexy Ways: The Best of Hank Ballard & the Midnighters Artist Hank Ballard & the Midnighters Album Title Sexy Ways: The Best of Hank Ballard & the Midnighters Date of Release Nov 16, 1993 inprint AMG Rating Genre Rock Tones Freewheeling, Playful, Sweet, Rollicking, Joyous, Happy, Cheerful, Exuberant, Sexual, Carefree, Party/Celebratory Styles Doo Wop, R&B Type compilation AMG EXPERT REVIEW: Hank Ballard & the Midnighters were the 2 Live Crew of the early '50s, burning up the airwaves and black jukeboxes with lascivious-for-the-time period tunes like "Work with Me Annie," "Annie Had a Baby," and the title track. Although Ballard would go on to write dance hits, including the original version of "The Twist," the Midnighters at their best ("Open Up the Back Door") were Black doo wop at the end of a dark alley. Forget all previous compilations on these guys, this is the one you want. — Cub Koda 1. Get It (Ballard/Tucker) 2. Work With Me Annie (Ballard) 3. Sexy Ways (Ballard) 4.
