When Blayde Hollister (Gary Cooper) returns home after the Civil War, Bryant Marlow (Steve Cochran) and his elder brother Will Cullen Marlow (Raymond Massey) have destroyed the Confederate officer’s homestead and killed his kin. To seek revenge, he decides to fake his death with the help of Wild Bill Hickok (Reed Hadley) and travel to Texas to seek out his enemies. With the help of United States Marshal Martin Weatherby (Leif Erickson) whose roots are from Boston, he can chase the bad guys. In the meantime he finds Weatherby’s girlfriend Tonia Robles (Ruth Roman) attractive, but cannot be dissuaded from vindicating his dead family.
