It is a crime story about four kids from the New York neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen. They decide robbery, but their first attempt into crime does not go well with Hayden (Ryan Slater) Gloria's brother dead, and Johnny (Mekhi Phifer) gets arrested by the cops, while Patty (Johnny Whitworth) and Gloria (Angelina Jolie) manage to escape. Johnny is sentenced to 5 year prison for theft. Gloria loved Johnny but with her brother Hayden dead she began to blame Johnny of his death. With such thoughts emerging in her mind she is eager to avenge her brothers death. Patty has also fallen in love with Gloria. Gloria now wants him to help her take revenge. He is not happy about betraying his old friend but he is framed by Gloria into the plot to kill Johnny. Patty has earlier been involved in an affair with Gloria's mother Liz (Rosanna Arquette), this thought makes him feel guilty. When Johnny releases from prison he tries to make a career as a boxer Lou (William Forsythe), former heavyweight contender who offers to help Johnny. Johnny doesnt want to be linked with Lou as he learns about his involvement in organized crime. His friend realizes that Johnny was not responsible for Hayden's death so he doesn't come to town.
